Beidh ócáid suntasach ag ceiliúradh cultúr agus oidhreacht sráidbhaile Gaeltachta Chúil Aodha ar siúl ar an Satharn, 9ú Meán Fómhair. Tá togra trí bliana de chuid Coiste Bailte Slachthmara Cúil Aodha i gcomhar le Comhairle Contae Chorcaí tagtha chun críche agus tá sé sin á cheiliúradh ag an bpobal áitiúil leis an gclár imeachtaí seo a leanas.

Ceiliúrfar Aifreann cuimhneacháin i Séipéal Chúil Aodha ar a 2:30in ar an Satharn, 9ú Meán Fómhair, leis an slua a bheidh i láthair á thabhairt ina dhiaidh sin chuig an láthair chuimhneacháin i gcroílár an tsráidbhaile ag píobairí áitiúla, áit ina mbeidh 11 leac cuimhneacháin á nochtadh i ndíl chuimhne filí, cumadóirí, amhránaithe, scéalaithe, ceoltóirí agus iad siúd a sheas go díograiseach ar son an cheantair Ghaeltachta tábhachtach seo sna bliata atá caite. Léifear nóta ar leith sula dtabharfar cuireadh do dhuine muinteartha le gach duine de na pearsaí ar leith na leaca cuimhneacháin a nochtadh.

Déanfar an láthair a bheannú sula gcríochnaíonn an ócáid le ceiliúradh mór in Áras Eamonn Mac Suibhne áit ina mbeidh fáilte chroíúil roimh gach éinne. Déanfar leaca a nochtadh do Dómhnall Ó Mulláin, Amhlaoibh Ó Loingsigh, Diarmuid Ó Súilleabháin, Dómhnall Ó Ceocháin, Ruth Ó Riada, Pádraig Mac Suibhne, Seán Ó Duinnín agus Dómhnall Bán Ó Céileachair. Déanfar leaca a nohctadh chomh maith do Champlacht C – Óglaigh na hÉireann Cúil Aodha, Camplacht C – Cumann na mBan Cúil Aodha, agus leac eile ag tabhairt aitheantas don úinéir talún áitiúil a thug an chloch álainn don togra seo.

Níl sa liosta anseo thuas ach an chéad sciar de go leor eile a gcuirfear leaca cuimhneacháin in airde ina leith sna blianta le teacht.

Cuirtear le feidhmiúlacht an tsuímh leis an láthair athchúrsála á ionchorprú isteach ann chomh maith. Tá neart ama caite ag ealaíontóir áitiúil Nora Uí Dhuinnín ag iompú na boscaí athchúrsála seo isteach i saothar ealaíne gleoite mar choillearnach sí.

Ghabh Cathaoirleach an Choiste Bailte Slachthmara, Gearóid Ó Loingsigh buíochas le gach éinne a d’oibrigh chomh dian chun an láthair seo a chlaochlú, tá tacaíocht thar cuimse tugtha ag James Dwyer, Innealtóir Áitiúil Chomhairle Contae Chorcaí agus an fhoireann ar fad in Oifig na Comhairle i Maigh Chromtha. Mór-pháirtithe eile an togra iad Údarás na Gaeltachta, ESBI Wind Development – Cnocán an Phóna agus Comhaltas Cosanta Chúil Aodha.

Beidh sriantaí tráchta i bhfeidhm sa sráidbhaile idir 3:00in agus 4:30in ar an Satharn, 9ú Meán Fómhair.

Cúil Aodha Memorial Wall A significant event celebrating the culture and heritage of the mid Cork Gaeltacht of Cúil Aodha will take place on Saturday 9th September. A three year long project by Coiste Bailte Slachthmara Cúil Aodha in conjunction with Cork County Council has reached completion and the community are celebrating with the following programme of events.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated in Séipéal Chúil Aodha at 2:30pm on Saturday 9th September, those gathered will then be led by local pipers to the memorial site in the centre of the village where 11 memorial plaques will be unveiled, commemorating local poets, songwriters, singers, storytellers, musicians and those who who have advocated for this important Gaeltacht region in years past. An individual citation will be read before a relative of each person being remembered will be invited to unveil the individual plaques. Blessing of the site will take place before the event concludes with a celebration in Áras Eamonn Mac Suibhne where all will be most welcome.

Plaques will be unveiled to Dómhnall Ó Mulláin, Amhlaoibh Ó Loingsigh, Diarmuid Ó Súilleabháin, Dómhnall Ó Ceocháin, Ruth Ó Riada, Pádraig Mac Suibhne, Seán Ó Duinnín and Dómhnall Bán Ó Céileachair. Plaques will also be unveiled to C Company Old IRA Cúil Aodha, C Company Cumman na mBan Cúil Aodha, and another plaque will acknowledge the local landowner who donated the beautiful stone for this project.

The above are only the first of many more who it is hoped will be commerated at this site in the coming years.

The functionality of the site is further enhanced with the incorporation of a recycling bin area. Local artist Nora Dinneen has spent many hours turning these recycling bins into a fairytale wonderland.

Coiste Bailte Slachthmara chairman Gearóid Ó Loingsigh paid tribute to all those who have worked so hard to transform this site, the support of Cork County Council Local Area Engineer James Dwyer and all the staff in the Macroom Council Office has been nothing short of magnificent. Other major contributors to the project have been Údarás na Gaeltachta, ESBI Wind Development – Grousemount and Comhaltas Cosanta Chúil Aodha.

Traffic restrictions through the village will be in place from 3:00pm to 4:30pm on Saturday 9th September.
